Starting Strong: The Power of Orientations and Stay & Play Visits

Beginning childcare is a big step for children and parents alike. Whether it’s your first experience or just a new chapter in your family's journey, entering a new early learning environment can stir up a mix of excitement and nerves. At Sage Early Learning Centre, we believe that how a child starts can shape how they feel and we’re here to make that start as smooth, positive, and supported as possible.

That’s where orientations and stay & play visits come in at our childcare centre.

Why Orientations Matter

Imagine walking into a brand-new space, full of new people, new routines, and new expectations now imagine doing it without your parent by your side. For young children, this can be a lot to process. That’s why we offer dedicated orientation sessions before your child officially begins child care.

These visits are calm, unhurried opportunities for your child to:

  • Explore the space at their own pace

  • Meet the educators who will be caring for them

  • Discover new toys, play spaces, and friends

  • Start building a sense of trust and security

It’s not just about the children, either. Orientations are just as important for parents. They give you the chance to:

  • Get to know our team and ask any questions you may have

  • Learn more about our routines, policies, and curriculum

  • See how we communicate with families

  • Understand what to expect and how we’ll support your child

We encourage families to attend multiple sessions where possible. Some children may need just one or two visits; others may benefit from more. There’s no one-size-fits-all approach it’s about what helps your child feel comfortable and confident.

The Benefits Go Beyond the First Day

Orientation is more than a tour. It’s the beginning of relationships between your child and their educators, between your family and our team, and between your child and their peers. It’s where the foundation for a smooth transition is laid.

Here are just a few of the benefits we see time and again:

  • Greater emotional wellbeing during the first weeks of care

  • Reduced separation anxiety

  • Quicker adjustment to routines

  • More confidence and curiosity from the start

  • A stronger sense of belonging within the childcare centre

Stay & Play Visits: You're Always Welcome

Once your child has started care, the connection doesn’t stop. Our open-door policy invites parents and carers to drop in for stay & play visits. Whether you have 15 minutes or an hour, these visits are a beautiful way to stay involved and engaged in your child’s early learning journey.

You’re welcome to:

  • Join in for play and activities

  • Share a meal or group time

  • Observe your child’s learning and progress

  • Celebrate their projects, artwork, and little wins

It’s also a great chance to strengthen relationships with educators, gain insights into your child’s interests, and feel more connected to the daily rhythm of the early learning centre.
